Every guitar needs a few adjustments from time to time, just to ensure optimal playability.
A basic set-up involves giving the instrument a good clean, changing the strings and checking the string height and intonation. If the strings are high the instrument may need adjustment to
the truss rod and /or the bridge saddles and the nut.
Often the fingerboard and frets will need to be cleaned and polished. A smooth hydrated fret board feels much nicer under the fingers and string bends are much easier to
accomplish
Some guitars have very uneven frets and this can lead to string buzz or notes choking out. Depending on the severity of the problem individual frets can be spot-levelled or all of the frets
can be levelled, re-crowned and polished.
Loose wires or dirty switches and potentiometers can cause crackling noises, or intermittent loss of sound. These need to be cleaned with a suitable electrical cleaner and failing
connections can be resoldered.
